This year's note
Maha Shivaratri is the great night of Shiva, observed on Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi — 15 February 2026. Devotees fast, keep vigil, and offer bel patra through four night prahars. Rajasthan's Shiva shrines at Eklingji (Mewar), Karni Mata's region, and countless village shivlings fill after sunset.
Nishita kaal, not the civil date alone, decides the core puja. That window moves with longitude, so Jaipur and Jaisalmer will not match to the minute.
Open your city's panchang for 15 February for sunset, nishita, and the night choghadiya if you plan a temple visit after dark.
Nishita puja
The core puja is Nishita, not the civil date alone. Four prahar vigil and bel patra. Eklingji and village shivlings fill after sunset.
