Krishna Janmashtami is Bhadrapada Krishna Ashtami — 4 September 2026. The birth is observed at midnight (nishita) in most Vaishnava homes; temples in Jaipur, Nathdwara, and Khatu keep night vigils, jhanka, and dahi-handi in some neighbourhoods the next morning.
Because nishita depends on local sunrise and sunset, the midnight bell is not the same minute in Bikaner and Udaipur.

When to mark the birth
Most Vaishnava homes mark the birth at Nishita (the midnight watch). Nishita is the eighth of fifteen parts from sunset to the next sunrise — Jaipur and Udaipur will not match to the minute.

Fast, jhula, bhog, and abhishek or aarti at Nishita. Some neighbourhoods keep dahi-handi the next morning. Nathdwara and Khatu night jhankis follow local time.
